How great was Tracy McGrady way back in 2000? Ben Taylor of Thinking Basketball takes us back to December 2, 2000—a matchup against the New Jersey Nets in which T-Mac recorded his first 40-point game, adding 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks.
In this episode of Anatomy of the Game, Ben revisits that performance to break down the footwork, shot fakes and versatile finishing that revealed a superstar taking shape.
It was a preview of a transformative 2000–01 season: T-Mac would nearly double his scoring average and go from a Sixth Man of the Year candidate to a top-six finisher in MVP voting in just one year.
